The first ever DOCES debate was held on September 18, 2018 at Sto. Niño Parochial School, with the judges Fr. Victor Angelo Parlan (DOCES School Chaplain) and Rev. Fr. Raymond Joseph L. Arre (DOCES Superintendent).

Parochial Schools under the Diocese of Cubao Educational System participated in the first DOCES DEBATE 2018 with the topic “Federalism”. The representatives of Holy Family Parochial School were Sherilyn Albior, Bianca Abutal, Juliane Legaspi, and Kirby Baltazar, all from the high school department. They were accompanied by 3 coaches namely: Mr. Beejay Bolaños, Mrs. Amelia Sunga, and Ms. Roan Robosa.

It was announced that the first schools to debate were Holy Family Parochial School and Sto. Niño Parochial School. Mr. Bolaños together with the coach of SNPS were asked to randomly pick the side that each team will defend; and HFPS got the negative side.

After minutes of debating, just before the break, the facilitator announced the winners for the first debate, which was Holy Family Parochial School. Both schools congratulated each other and were asked to proceed to the library to wait for the final round.

For the final round, Holy Family Parochial School got the affirmative side while their competitor, Immaculate Conception Cathedral School got the negative side. When the debate started it was visible that our debaters were anxious, but they were determined to win so they just shrugged it off. After the debate, the whole crowd were both anxious and excited to know the result. Then, when the results were ready, the facilitator first stated the “Special Awards” which are: the ‘best speaker’ who was Juliane Legaspi from Holy Family Parochial School, the ‘best debater’ who was Bianca Abutal also from Holy Family Parochial School, and the ‘best rebuttal’ which was from Sto. Niño Parochial School. After the photo taking of each student with Special Awards, the most awaited awarding was finally announced. The facilitator started with the 3rd runner up which was St. Joseph Catholic School, the 2nd runner up which was Sto. Niño Parochial School, the 1st runner up which was Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, and lastly the Champion which was Holy Family Parochial School. It was an unexpected win, which made the whole HFPS community proud.
