The DOCES Leadership Training was held on the 18th of August with the Sto. Niño Parochial School as the host of the event. Student leaders from different schools namely: Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, Sto. Niño Parochial School, St. Joseph College and Holy Family Parochial School gathered together at the SNPS Audio Visual Room to discuss the theme of this year’s leadership training, “Leaders of Faith, Bearers of Love”.

After the opening ceremonies, the leadership training officially started with a game of “Jump In, Jump Out” as an activity for the student leaders to get to know each other. The mechanics of the game was to listen to the guest speakers if the different groups must jump in or jump out. Luckily enough, among the 10 groups that were playing the game, no one got eliminated and the students easily got to be acquainted with each other and got to discern what the real message of the game was which is communication and cooperation.

In able for a student leader to be able to lead properly, he or she must know how to communicate and cooperate with his or her members and community. Without proper communication and cooperation, a community will not be able to succeed nor reach its main goal.

As the training carried on with its first session, one of the speakers had a talk regarding being Leaders of Faith. He emphasized that in able for the students to be great leaders, they must know how to Give Themselves, Open Themselves and Humble Themselves.

The students were reminded that they did not become a leader to be served by others, but to serve others. They were called by Christ to be great examples to their classmates and to their school community and to prove that despite their young age, they can lead their community to the right and beautiful path. They were also told to love one another in spite of not knowing or not liking a certain person. Although you don’t want to love this person, you need to so no matter what because they were all made to spread happiness and to love one another. One last reminder by the guest speakers before the first session ended was regardless of the position that they hold, they must remain humble. Real leaders do not boast nor abuse the power that they hold in his or her community.

As the second session started, the speakers started a talk with a theme of ‘Called to L.E.A.D.’ The main focus of the lecture was to Lead Yourself First, Everyday Add Value to Others, Accept Your Strength and Weakness and Develop Your Character.

It was stated by one of the guest speakers that in able for the student leaders to L.E.A.D, they must first connect with Christ. They should first establish their faith in Christ and establish that in whatever they are doing, they must put Christ in the center of their task. Second, they must ‘walk their talk’, the student leaders must say what they mean and do what they say. Sometimes people make demanding plans that they won’t be able to do simply because they are not capable to do it or they do not have the energy or motivation to do the task. Leaders must know their own capabilities for them to be able to stick to their word. These students leaders also need to remember that the tasks assigned to them is not a responsibility, but an opportunity to prove their community that they are capable to do the assigned tasks.

Lastly, leaders must Serve with Excellence. Leaders need to exert 110% effort in everything that they do because leaders do not do certain tasks for themselves, but to their community. As the great speaker had said, think about “we” not “me”.

The third and last session was about being Bearers of Love. Since they are called by God to serve others, they must Listen like Christ, Care like Christ and Act like Christ. Listen like Christ by knowing your people and going back to the first session, they must again Open Themselves to be able to listen to the problems and concerns of the people in their own communities. Care like Christ by serving with you all and not only that, going back yet again to the first session, the leaders must not be there to be served but to serve others. Last but not the least, Act like Christ by praying for their community’s lives.

After the third and final session, students from the different schools were given the opportunity to express what their thoughts were about the leadership training and what they wanted to apply to their own school. These selected students expressed that they were absolutely grateful for having a training dedicated to leadership and worshipping because this is a once in a blue moon opportunity. Having a training dedicated to leadership made the students realize how responsible and lucky they are to not only serve their school but Christ as well.

The training ended with the closing remarks of the Principal of SNPS and closing prayer of one of the students from the said school.

Hopefully these student leaders remember in their hearts what they’ve learned from the leadership training[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
